Water

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 30%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

  1. I had no idea drinking more water could ease back and joint pain. I have a bad back and my knees sometimes give me trouble. Water is awesome!

I have a hard time drinking just plain water, so I usually infuse it with something yummy. I'll add half a lemon, some cucumber slices, and a few mint leaves to my enormous water bottle and then it is easy to drink lots! Lemon water is also really good for you.

  2. The most refreshing water I've ever had came from the lobby of a hotel we once stayed at. :) At the front desk, they kept a pitcher of ice water with lemon & orange slices, and that was seriously the-most-invigorating-water! We drank a cup of it each morning as we left to go explore the city on foot. With my first sip I could feel the bags under my eyes deflating. I actually rolled out of bed one of those mornings and said (in the groggiest of morning voices), "I need my morning citrus water." We must tell coffee drinkers everywhere! :)

And thanks, Jess, for these motivating statistics! I am prone to knock-me-out migraines and dehydration is one of my triggers. I had no idea how many other things water consumption can effect!
